Oh, WOES, WOES, WOES. How fitting that this Scottish pop-punk band's latest album is titled "Awful Truth," because the awful truth is... it's not great. From the moment you press play, you're bombarded with frantic riffs, angsty vocals, and lyrics that feel like they were pulled straight from a teenager's diary. It's all a bit much, really. The album tries so hard to be emo and edgy that it ends up feeling forced and overdone. Tracks like "Sub," "Fancy," and "HLC" attempt to tap into that raw, emotional energy that pop-punk is known for, but instead come across as cliché and uninspired. The lack of originality is palpable, and it's hard to differentiate WOES from the countless other bands trying to make it big in the scene. While there are a few moments of promise scattered throughout the album, such as the catchy hooks in "Over It" and the infectious energy of "Losing Time," they are unfortunately overshadowed by the album's overall lacklustre execution. In the end, "Awful Truth" is a forgettable addition to WOES' discography. Perhaps they need to take a step back and reevaluate their sound, because right now, it's falling flat. Sorry lads, better luck next time.
